KARACHI: A shocking harassment scandal came to the fore on Thursday when the goalkeeper of Pakistan Women’s Hockey team alleged that she had been physically harassed by the male coach.
According to details, the goalkeeper of the Pakistani Women’s Hockey Team alleged that coach Saeed Khan had told her to meet him at night.
“He dragged me into a room and assaulted me there,” she alleged. “He also tried to wrap my dupatta (scarf) around my mouth,” she added.
In a written complaint to the Punjab Sports Minister, the goalkeeper writes that she and her teammates were told by the manager of the team to stay till dinner.
“We stayed in the stadium till dinner only because the manager told us to,” she said.
However she alleged that coach Saeed Khan followed her to her room and told her to leave the stadium at once.
“He grabbed my arm and tried to wrap the scarf around my mouth,” she wrote. “Three of my teammates arrived who tried to help me and he told them to leave.”
The women’s team goalkeeper alleged that Saeed Khan had threatened to slap her if she screamed and told her before she was leaving the room, to wash her face.
She appealed to the relevant authorities to take notice of the incident and said that Saeed Khan was a man of low character.
“For a woman, nothing is more than her self-respect,” she wrote. – Agencies
