Listening to Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy talk about Kashmir, and Indo-Pak relations in Kashif Abbasi’s programme on the 9th of December was sheer agony. Do educated men with such twisted ideas exist amidst or around us? Surely they do. Some of them have covers, beneath which they can hide their disdain for ‘idiotic’ patriots who believe that Kashmir indeed is Pakistan’s lifeline. The others are as vocal and ‘un-corrupted’ by ‘caution’ as Dr Hoodbhoy sounded when he began his sermon on the futility of wasting our time and effort on a dead issue like Kashmir.
“Let us not remain hostage to the Kashmir issue forever,” said he. “Let us move forward, resolve other issues like terrorism, and rein in those Jehadi outfits that are drunken with passion for war on India.”
Before Hoodbhoy’s intellectual rhetoric would get out of control Kashif Abbasi applied brakes and went for commercial break.
This man spent most of the energies of his youth on ‘efforts’ to build stumbling blocks in the way of Pakistan acquiring nuclear parity with India. He was and continues to be representative of a mindset that NATIONS need not worry much about getting subjugated and enslaved by superior forces.
Their twisted logic has no room for terms like ‘patriotism’, ‘national pride’ and ideology.
They live in their shells. For them ‘those’ who lay down their ‘lives’ for ’causes’ are insane. Martyrdom to them is an aberration of mind.
Tragedy is that they are becoming relevant in this era of Mian Nawaz Sharif. May I mention Mr Najam Sethi’s name in this context” Well they may have different names. But they are ONE MINDSET.
