DUBAI: Pakistan jumped to the third spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Super League standings – a new ODI competition for direct World Cup qualification – after they claimed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series against the Netherlands.
Pakistan secured the third spot in the standings with 110 points as they won 11 out of 17 ODIs played so far during the period starting from May 1, 2020.
England are currently leading the standings with 125 points followed by Bangladesh sitting in the second position with 120 points. India, who have automatically qualified for the World Cup 2023 for being the host are however in the 7th position in the standings. The CWC Super League takes place over two years between 13 teams where each team plays a total of 24 ODIs. Only the top eight teams will qualify directly for next year’s 50-over World Cup in India, while the bottom five teams will play a qualifying tournament. Each team gets 10 points for a win, five for a tie/ no result/ abandoned match and zero for a loss.
