ISLAMABAD, August 24: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday rejected an extension in the physical remand of PTI senior leader Shahbaz Gill, who has been arrested in connection with a sedition case registered against him.
The state prosecutor sought an extension of seven days in Gill’s physical remand, but Judicial Magistrate Malik Amman rejected the plea and instead sent the PTI leader to jail on judicial remand.
Rejecting the police’s request for extension in the physical remand of Shahbaz Gill, the court of a judicial magistrate sent him to Adiala Jail on judicial remand. Earlier, the court reserved its verdict on the petition filed by the police for extension in PTI’s leader’s physical remand by seven days.
Informing the court that the police were still interrogating the PTI leader in connection with his anti-Pakistan Army remarks during a talk show on a private TV channel, Special Prosecutor said that the police were still to recover cellphone from the suspect. “Apart from that he also has to undergo polygraphic and the investigation officer (IO) was to look into it whether further interrogation from him was required.
Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Chaudhry Advocate, Gill’s counsel, opposed the police’s request for extension in his client’s remand and told the court that the PTI leader was a professor and it was height of cruelty. – DNA
