ISLAMABAD – The minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Riaz Hussain Pirzada, has termed the leakage of Waqar Younis’ report as an institutional failure.
“I think leakage of the report is weakness of institutions. Principally speaking it should not have been revealed,” he told reporters present at the Pakistan Sports Complex Thursday.
In the aftermath of the deplorable World T20 campaign the Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis had submitted his confidential report to the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan. The report was leaked to the media subsequently, inducing a furious response from Waqar.
Highly frustrated Waqar, after his failure to meet from PCB chairman Shahryar M Khan, called on IPC minister.
Waqar informed the minister about PCB’s humiliating behaviour towards players and politics rules the roost in PCB. He requested the minister to inform Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about the actual facts as if the PM doesn’t intervene timely, Pakistan cricket would suffer heavily.
“I am quite sure Riaz can play his due role in this matter. I am ready to quit, but don’t embarrass me.”
He also informed Minister about Pakistan cricket teams’ failure in the Asia Cup and World T/20. Riaz offered his all out backing to Waqar and termed him a national hero, who had won lot of matches for Pakistan both as player and coach.
The minister said winning or losing is the part of the game and even likes of Australia also exited from the World T/20.
Riaz assured he would arrange not only Waqar’s meeting with the PM but also of board’s officials and after thorough investigation, the persons involved in leaking of report would not be spared and would be dealt with accordingly.
He said the PM is a fond cricket lover and a player himself but he is very busy these days and as soon as he is free, the meeting would take place. He thanked Waqar for honouring him and meeting him.
Waqar highlighted the flaws in the PCB and said the majority of the PCB officials are incompetent and doesn’t know cricket affairs and professionals are need of the hour to put the PCB back on right track. “We must focus on improving domestic cricket and sufficient amount of funds should be spare for this purpose.”
The minister advises Waqar to stay calm and not get offended. He supported the idea of hiring professionals in the PCB and promised to help Waqar in the best possible fashion. Waqar also denied submitting report against players divided into two groups. I had filed detailed report with the PCB and I am deeply hurt that the report was leaked, which is not fair, he added.
One thing is quite clear PCB is clearly divided into two groups Shahryar Khan and Najam Sethi and their infighting is the main reason behind Pakistan teams’ dismal run for the last few years. – Agencies
