This is the time when Iran should be cooperating with us. It had better hand over the RAW agents present on its soil to us as disclosed by an Indian RAW agent arrested by the ISI. Only two reasons can be advanced for the presence of the RAW agents in Iran and on both counts Iran is to be be faulted. Either Tehran was fully aware of their presence or it wasn’t. If it was in the know of them, it is highly unfortunate because Pakistan never expected that it can be stabbed in its back by a country with which it had always enjoyed excellent relations. Tehran should never have allowed a non-muslim country whose muslim-bashing policies are open secret to use its soil against a neighbouring muslim country. If the Iranian intelligence agencies were ignorant of their presence on their soil and their hidden activities against us what other conclusion can one draw except concluding that they were professionally incompetent? . Instead of beating about the bush, Tehran had better clarify what is the factual position? It ought to cooperate with us in the matter.
Bhutto would have been on the wrong side of eighty had he been alive today. On this very day in 1979 he was hanged. His hanging was billed as a judicial murder by many jurists. Even his worst detractors accept that he was honest, to a fault. He is credited for assembling heads of all Islamic states in Lahore in 1974 in a conference————-an historic feat which annoyed Washington and for which he was duly punished by it later on. He was architect of 1973 constitution——-another notable achievement that goes to his credit. It was Bhutto who masterminded nuclear technology for the country. Had he not allowed gerrymandering on a couple of seats in the 1977 elections he still would have won the polls. That was his political mistake which ultimately resulted in his undoing. Bhutto did carry out reforms in many sectors of life but since they were half-hearted they didn’t yield required results.
The Twenty20 world cup tournament is now a history. Cricket is by chance, so goes an age-old adage. On paper New Zealand and India were better teams and one of them should have won it, but both were shown the door, in the semis by the teams which were considered lesser than them. For many who were hoping that Kiwis would face India in final this tournament was over the day New Zealanders lost its semi final. The West Indies cricket team that played in this tournament was not equal in calibre and talent to the former Carabbean cricket teams which ruled the cricket world during 1950, 1960 and 1970 but still it performed exceedingly well in this tournament. Gone are the days when players like Walcot, Worrel and Watson, known as The Three Ws used to play for it. Since long we haven’t seen the likes of Sir Garfield Sobers, Rohan Kanai, Wesley Hall, Gordon Greenage and Viv Richards.
