  • Complete strike observed in Pulwama on the 11th consecutive day

SRINAGAR, January 10: In occupied Kashmir, senior Hurriyet leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), Shabbir Ahmad Shah has strongly condemned the use of brute force by Indian police on the protesters of Pulwama and extended his full support to campaign demanding erecting of a martyrs’ memorial in the area. Shabbir Ahmad Shah in a statement issued in Srinagar on Sunday, while hailing the spirit of Pulwama youth, said, “To erect a board in memory of martyrs is not against law but is aimed at remembering the beloved martyrs which is a natural act on part of people. To refuse to such public demand and to suppress the people will be futile.”
He also demanded immediate release of the youth arrested by police and condemned the use of pellet guns and pepper gas against the people. He extended full support to such campaigns of erecting the martyrs’ memorial in Pulwama and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed for the 11th consecutive day, Sunday, in Pulwama against the authorities’ refusal to allow construction of a martyrs’ memorial in the town.
All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road.
On the other hand, hundreds of people attended funeral prayers in absentia for martyred Yasin Ittoo at Nagam in Chadoora. Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement had organized the funeral.
