PTIISLAMABAD, April 12: The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf has invited all opposition parties to march on to Raiwand, where Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has his personal residence, in order to protest against his family’s alleged links to offshore companies named in the Panama papers.
PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi met Pakistan People’s Party leader Khursheed Shah on Tuesday and invited him to join what he called the ‘Raiwand March’.
Khursheed Shah on the other hand tried to remain bipartisan and advised the prime minister to carry out a forensic audit so that his position becomes clear.
The PTI leader also separately met Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq. Speaking to the media, the JI chief said that it was tragic to see that a leader of a Muslim country was facing allegations of involvement in such massive corruption. “My heart bleeds for the country,” he said.
Qureshi is also trying to get in touch with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid. The PTI is also expected to extend an invitation to the PML-Q to join them in the Raiwand March.
Meanwhile, emotions ran high at the Punjab Assembly session on Tuesday as lawmakers argued over the revelations in the the Panama papers. Opposition party leaders chanted slogans against the prime minister and gathered near the dice of the assembly speaker.
PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah said that the opposition will not be stopped from marching on to Raiwand. “But it will not reap any results,” he warned. “The PTI has never been able to achieve anything by its tantrums.”
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday demanded of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to tender his resignation after ‘losing moral authority’ to keep the position revelations from the massive leak of tax documents from the Panama law firm Mosack Fonseca. In an address to the nation from his residence in Bani Gala, Khan also demanded that the government should form an inquiry commission led by the serving chief justice of Pakistan. “The commission should also include white-collar crime experts and an audit firm that follows the trail of money to determine where it leads,” he added.-Agencies
