570f917a14b13Pakistan’s out-of-favour opener Nasir Jamshed has been signed by Worcester’s Old Elizabethans in the club’s bid for promotion from Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Division Two.
Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Division Two is part of the England and Wales Cricket Board-funded ‘Premier Leagues’ and may not exactly be the top-tier cricket the Pakistan international would looking for to resurrect his career.
Jamshed last played for Pakistan at the 2015 World Cup and was woefully out of touch. But the left-handed batsman managed a couple of decent knocks in the National One-Day Cup and is also a part of the Islamabad side in the upcoming Pakistan Cup.For the Old Elizabethans Jamshed’s inclusion is being seen a major ‘coup’ as the Worcester club begin their promotion push at home against Stratford on Saturday, April 30.OEs’ cricket committee chairman Steve Walsh said: “There is a chance Nasir will be here for the first league game but he might miss that one.
“He’s a fantastic signing. We expect him to score a stack of runs and add experience to quite a young side. I believe he’s quite an explosive opening batsman.
“We were able to sign him just by chance through a cricket agent. We had been close to signing a pretty good Australian cricketer but that fell through.“Nasir and his wife have a house in Birmingham and a baby, so he didn’t want to play county cricket and other Birmingham League clubs already had their overseas players.
“He’ll be our highest-profile player since Richard Illingworth in 2009.”Jamshed made his Pakistan debut in 2008 against Zimbabwe in Karachi. He went on to play 47 more ODI games and two Tests and 18 T20s before losing form and falling off the selectors’ radar.
