sindh-army-vie-for-top-honour-in-women-netball-1460669632-3417ISLAMABAD – Holders Sindh and Army qualified for the final of 15th National Women Netball Championship 2016, after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals played here at Hamidi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday. In the first semifinal, Sindh women had to face stiff resistance from spirited Punjab females, who looked determined to knock down the champions, but Sindh women stood firm and finally won the encounter 27-11. It is pertinent to mention here till date, Sindh had outgunned opponents and registered victories with heavy margins, but Punjab gave a real fight to holders before going down fighting. Sindh must thank Anum Salam and Quratul Ain, who played outstandingly and scored 20 and 7 goals. In the second semifinal, Army edged out Wapda 28-20 with Ayesha Dilshad and Samreen playing superbly and scoring 20 and 8 goals respectively. IPC Ministry joint secretary Khalid Mehmood Mirza was the chief guest on this occasion while Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) president Mudassar Arain and secretary M Riaz and others were also present there. In the men’s semifinals, defending champions Army had to dig deep to overpower PAF 31-26. Abdul Haque and M Zahid played well for Army scoring 12 and 9 goals each. In the second semifinal, Wapda defeated Sindh 36-26 with Samad Masood and Yawar scoring 23 and 10 goals. The women third position match will be played between Wapda and Punjab teams at 9:30am today (Friday), while the male third position match will be played at 10:30am between PAF and Sindh. Both male and female finals will be played at 4:30pm and 5:30pm respectively with Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada gracing the occasion as chief guest. – Agencies
