PESHAWAR, April 26: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed for gearing up of preparatory activities of Bus Rapid Transport Project to ensure initiation of construction work of the project in January next year to complete it by December 2017 to provide better transport facilities to Peshawarities.
He issued these directives while presiding over a review meeting of Bus Rapid Transport Project at Chief Minister Secretariat, Peshawar Tuesday. MPA Arbab Jehandad Khan, District Nazim Peshawar, Mohammad Asim, Secretary Transport, DGPDA, DC Peshawar and representatives of Finance, P&D and other departments attended the meeting.
The Secretary Transport, Mohammad Zubair Qureshi briefed the meeting about the activities being carried out for implementation of the project. The meeting was informed that the project Management Unit (PMU) of the project had already been approved while efforts were underway for hiring staff for the unit. Similarly the meeting was told that Mass Transit Act (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Act) had been finalized and soon would be presented to the provincial cabinet for approval. Moreover, feasibility of the Bus Rapid Transport would be completed in September this year while recruitment of consultant for the detail designing had already been advertised. likewise summary for establishment of Mass Transit Bus Rapid Transport Company was presented to the CM for approval. The meeting was informed that procurement of one thousand latest air conditioned buses to be run in Peshawar was also advertised.
The Chief Minister directing for speeding up of preparatory process of the BRT project and directed for removal of obstacles in this regard. He, while directing for constitution of Board of Directors for Mass Transit RBT company stressed the need of selection of the skilled personnel for inclusion in the board. The CM also directed for close lesion with federal government for ensuring early approval of the project. Similarly, he underlined the need of legislation for Mass Transit Act coincided with the laws of other authorities in the province. The CM asked concerned authorities to focus on arranging proper security for the project. He ordered completion of the project within due time and warned that negligence would not be tolerated in this regard.-PR
