MossackFonsecaPanamaLeaksISLAMABAD, April 28: The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) issued a clarification in which it stated that neither had they removed the PM’s name nor apologised for including it, ARY News reported.
The ICIJ also termed the news by Jang Group as misleading. ICIJ revealed that they stood firm on their report and that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name mentioned in the Panama papers created the impression that Nawaz himself was the owner of the offshore companies. However, this was not the case since the offshore companies belong to his children instead.
A news included in Roznama Jang and The News International had claimed that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) had apologised for including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name in the Panama papers and had subsequently taken the PM’s name out.
The Panama papers contained details of offshore companies owned by world leaders and celebrities around the world and their close relatives. Following the damning revelations, the Prime Minister of Iceland was forced to step down. Ever since then, pressure has been mounting on PM Nawaz to resign after the opposition parties in Pakistan have called for an independent probe regarding the matter.
A judicial commission has been formed which will conduct its inquiry regarding the disclosures made by the Panama papers.-Agencies
