ISLAMABAD, May 11: The joint opposition on Wednesday put forth seven questions for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ahead of the latter’s appearance in the National Assembly later this week.
“The opposition has already disclosed questions that they wish to ask from the prime minister,” Opposition leader in the Senate Aitezaz Ahsan said while speaking to media after chairing a meeting of senior members of different opposition parties. “We want the prime minister to prepare the answers before coming to the parliament,” he added.
Opposition has formulated a questionnaire consisting of 7 questions over Panama leaks that it has demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to answer in the Parliament.
One of the questions demands PM Nawaz Sharif to disclose details of the offshore companies that his family owns. Opposition has demanded him to give out net value of his assets, bank accounts, properties and companies. Questions formulated by opposition are as follows:
Question 1- Explanation over Mayfair flats and when were they bought?
Question 2- Reports in British newspapers should be elaborated if flats are not owned by the PM.
Question 3- PM should be answerable to Nisar’s statement over the flats.
Question 4- International property owned by the PM from 1985 to 2016 should be explained in detail.
Question 5- How much tax did PM and his family pay from 1985 to 2016?
Question 6- PM should explain the details of his family members’ and his name titled in Panama Leaks and how much the offshore companies cost? How much did the family invest in the companies?
Question 7- From where did the PM pay the liabilities of London flats worth $ 32 million? Earlier today, opposition parties demonstrated walk-out in the National Assembly citing Prime Minister’s absence to explain his stance on Panama leaks the reason behind.
This is the second time opposition parties walked out of the National Assembly over PM Nawaz Sharif’s absence after Panama Papers published the leaks. The parties have announced to continue boycott of NA sessions until Prime Minister appears in the assembly and presents his stance.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) vice-chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Barrister Saif, PTI’s secretary general Jahangir Tareen, PTI’s spokesperson Shireen Mazari, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Ilyas Bilour and others took part in the meeting.
PM Nawaz Sharif’s family was named in Panama leaks in April for owning offshore companies.
The Prime Minister is presently touring Tajikistan and is returning on Thursday. -NNI
