The entire nation had prayed for the success of open heart surgery of the prime minister and God, the Almighty has listened to it. There is certainly a need of continuity in the government because of a couple of really significant mega projects now under execution as well as government’s commitment in war on terror shown by it. Let us hope the prime minister gains mobility as early as possible though, if experience be any guide, even if he recovers quickly he won’t be able to be fully functional before three months which is helluva time given the fact that the PM has to work round the clock which takes a heavy toll on his energies. Any person who goes through open heart surgery becomes half the man he used to be before he goes under the knife. There are two options available to the PM. . Either he goes on a three months’medical leave and vests all his powers to any of his cabinet minister or steps down after naming any one from his political party as the new prime minister. The opposition should also not create hurdles and allow the present elected government to complete its stint in office smoothly in the larger interest of the country.
Ramadhan hasn’t yet started but the traders have jacked up the price of essential commodities making it difficult tor the man in the street to keep his body and soul together. Where are the district administration and Food control authorities?Free enterprise doesn’t mean that the traders should have unfettered freedom to increase the price of edibles according to their whims and caprices.
POSTSCRIPT: It would be too early to sit in judgement on the chief selector of the PCB and his hand-picked team of selectors. Their real test would be provided by the forthcoming tour of Pakistani cricket squad to England which is round the corner. Till then the cricket observers had better keep their fingers crossed and hope for the best.
