The impending water crisis which this country is going to face soon is too serious an issue to be left to Parliament alone. Its utter silence over it amounts to criminal negligence. What a pity that none of the political party has taken cognisance of it which shows how indifferent are they to the main issues that this country is facing or going to face soon and how inept is their sense of priorities. Those research scholars who have command in the matter and who understand and know the extent of availability of sub-soil water in the country and the factors that are going to cause scarcity like the back of their hands predict that water crisis of first magnitude is likely to hit this country by 2025 and unless the government dealt it on a war footing we are going to land in trouble soon. Global warming and the meltdown of colossal glaciers and ice bergers and inability of upper and lower riparians to put the melted water to proper use and make adequate arrangements for the storage of this water are being cited as the main reasons for the impending water scarcity in the country.
It goes without saying that, we as a nation, are spendthrift in the usage of water with the result that a big quantity of water which could be saved is wasted by us. The government would have to take time by the forelock and take effective steps like undertaking a public awareness campaign through the Fourth Estate for educating the masses for the minimum use of water and may consider resorting to water rationing in order to save the country from a bigger catastrophe.
