Not a long time back, all the polls indicated that General Raheel Sharif was the most popular person in the country. He was seen as a saviour and a bold warrior in all the great causes— in the causes dear to the dispirited millions and millions of this country.
Even Imran Khan several times acknowledged that the popularity of the Army Chief was undisputedly higher — and it was higher because of his spirited campaign against both terrorism and corruption.
He was at that point of time seen as being on the wrong side of the Government of Mian Nawaz Sharif. Infact at that point of time, MNS had let loose men like Mushahidullah to demonise the army and its leadership. Quite clearly MNS viewed General Raheel Sharif’s popularity as a threat to his power.
Today the Government propaganda is trying to create an impression and perception that the Army Chief and MNS are on the same page.
And this is definitely hurting the image of General Raheel Sharif in the public esteem. The overwhelming number of people in this country view MNS and AAZ as being on the same page in their joint goal to defend this system of monumental corruption, shameless cronyism, naked nepotism and appalling misrule.
The latest proof of their being on the same page is the manner in which MNS has cleverly maneuvered to get Asif Ali Zardari’s man Dr Asim Hussain off the hook. The man whom the Rangers had taken to task for a number of crimes against the state is now a VVIP guest of the Sindh Government not without the connivance of the Federal Government.
If General Raheel Sharif and MNS are on the same page, General Raheel Sharif is also on the same page with Prime Minister Modi of India on the one hand, and the PPP boss Asif Ali Zardari on the other hand.
God forbid if that is the case, Pakistan is on the same page with an Onrushing Doom.
