supreme-courtISLAMABAD, June 14: The Supreme Court of Pakistan reserving the judgment over bail applications of accused of corruption in Workers Welfare Fund, has told the National Accountability Bureau that in order to successfully confront corruption in Pakistan, the bureau will have to change its policy.
Three-member SC bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood Khan heard the bail applications. Chairman Nab Qamaru Zamman Chaudhry himself appeared on court notices.
Justice Dost Muhammad Khan observed that Workers Welfare Board
has committee a dacoity on the rights of poor people of the country by embezzlement in Worker Welfare Fund and Nab has not taken any action against Bank officials involved in corruption. The court advised Nab chief to appoint a joint investigation team, adding that it (Nab) wants to root out the billions of rupees corruption that it should take services of legal experts. Earlier, a court rejected NAB’s petition to grant physical remand of former education director in a corruption case. A few days ago, NAB’s Chairman, Qamar Zaman Zaman Chaudhry while inaugurating a forensic lab in Islamabad said that his agency is determined to end corruption from Pakistan. The chairman had earlier said that no one will be let off the hook as far as corruption is concerned. He further directed the NAB officials to carry out their work honesty. He added that the bureau is committed to eradicating corruption by “adopting zero tolerance” policy across the board. The chairman has vowed to revamp NAB performance The bureau has been carrying out an operation against its employees who have allegedly remained involved in corruption.-Sabah
