According to an Indian website, Pakistani beauty Mahira Khan was not the first choice for Raees but beat out Bollywood’s Huma Qureshi to secure her role.
Starring beside a megastar such as Shah Rukh Khan does not come easy, you have to turn heads and prove critics right. Our very own Mahira Khan bagged a role alongside Bollywood’s iconic superstar Shah Rukh Khan and if an Indian website is to be believed, she beat out renowned Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi for the role! According to the post, the first choice for Raees, an Indian movie starring Shah Rukh Khan was Huma but that was before Mahira was on board. “Huma Qureshi. They thought Huma would fit the bill and also they wanted a fresh pairing of sorts. But then, they got Mahira on board because the character required the actress to have a certain kind of mannerism and lingo and being a Pakistani, Mahira totally nailed it,” read a post on the website.
“The film is based in the backdrop of the Muslim ghetto in Gujarat and Raees is essentially a story of this man who becomes powerful. The heroine’s role is also a prominent one – that of SRK’s wife, a Muslim woman.”
Looks like the lively actress did her homework before she auditioned for Raees!
