LAHORE, August 1: Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Senator Sirajul Haq announced to observe the independence day of India as a Black Day and insisted that those who wish to welcome Indian home minister in Pakistan would have to leave for Delhi.
Addressing a large gathering of party workers and people against the recent wave of violence and killings in Indian-held Kashmir, he said the issue of Kashmir evolved on the basis of ideology and not regionalism.
The Freedom of Kashmir March on Sunday, organised but by the religious party to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people, started from Nasir Bagh in Lahore and reached Wagah border later in the day through Mall Road.
Haq said, the Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who is due to visit Pakistan on 3rd to be a part of the South Asian Interior and Home Ministers meeting, should not be welcomed.
During his fiery address, the JI chief announced that his party would
observe a Black Day on August 15, the day when Indians celebrate their independence from a long British rule.
The participants of the march maintained that the Indian government must recognise Kashmir and its freedom movement.
Analysts believe, Singh’s trip to Pakistan is extremely important amid the rising tensions between the two neighbouring countries and unrest in the Indian-held Kashmir.
It is also the first visit by any of the senior government officials from India since the Pathankot airbase attack in which India always suspects Pakistan connections.
The Indian minister apart from attending SAARC meeting would also hold bilateral meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, said sources. -NNI
