Our boys must have learnt a great deal from their recent tour of England where they drew the test series, won the sole Twenty20 match convincingly but lost fifty -fifty series 4-1.
Series against the West Indies in the Emirates which is going to start in a couple of days will include all the three formats of cricket .It would have been better had the matches against the West Indies been played on the Sri Lankan pitches instead of playing them on the flat wickets of the Emirates which are batsmen’s paradise and which render no help, whatever,to the bowlers?
The PCB has replaced Inthikhab Alam with Wasim Bari who is now the new manager of Pakistan’s cricket team. One oldie has given way to another. Both of them have been rotating various positions in the PCB over the years. To draw on the experience of old hands in managerial positions is not a bad idea but its scope needs to be widened and instead of appointing and reappointing same persons time and again chance may be given to other senior cricketers also who had played for Pakistan in the past.
Pakistan must now rebuild three three teams for the three different versions of the game. The strategy should be so chalked out that for every position in the team at least three players are available simultaneously so that in case of injury to any player his substitute is readily available. Our boys should be encouraged to play in the English counties as well as in the Down Under so that they could get the hang of their pitches and don’t feel uncomfortable whenever they go on the tour of the countries having pitches on which the ball bounce and turn. The search for finding out more and more fast bowlers must continue unabated as matches are often won by the teams which have quality pacemen. This is not to suggest that we should ignore our quest for good batsmen and spinners who too play a predominant part in winning matches.
