Abdul BasitNEW DELHI, September 25: Pakistan’s High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit said on Sunday Pakistan has nothing to do with the Uri attack and that the country is not thinking of war despite the difficult circumstances.
In an interview to an Indian publication, Abdul Basit said Kashmiris are not a third party but instead are stakeholders in the Kashmir issue. Condemning Indian allegations against Pakistan, the High Commissioner said New Delhi should not level baseless accusations at Pakistan, like it did in the Pathankot case.
“Pakistan does not allow its soil to be used in plotting terrorism against any country,” he said, adding that Pakistan was committed to its goal of rooting out terrorism and extremism. Abdul Basit said that Kashmir is the primary bone of contention between Pakistan and India and that Pakistan believes in resolving all disputes through dialogue. “Kashmiris are stakeholders in the problem and should be included in any such talks,” the Pakistani envoy said. Abdul Basit added that Pakistan is fully capable of defending itself but is not thinking of war. He also said that mutual respect and understanding should be maintained in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. -DNA
