This is a poor country but its taxpayers still incur heavy expenditure on the pay and other fringe benefits and allowances of their legislators with open heart and without any frown on their forehead. The parliamentarians are, however, still not content with the monetary benefits which they get monthly. The question is if they cannot make their both ends meet with them why the hell do they hanker after getting their party tickets to contest polls for the assembly seat? Why on earth do they spend lavishly on their election campaign?
Politics in this country is the most profitable business. If any person wants to make quick bucks overnight he had better join an electable political party and wangle a party ticket for himself either of provincial or national assembly . In case luck smiles on him and he makes it to any assembly his life would be beer and skittles as long as he remains a legislator. Not only would he recover the money spent by him on his elections or any other amount which he might have deposited in his party funds but would also pocket a fair amount out of enormous funds which he annually gets under the name of developmental funds for carrying out developmental works in his constituency. If he falls ill and he wants to get medically treated abroad the government would bear his medical bill. One can well imagine how much this poor nation spends on him every month. This is not to mention the enormous political clout which he enjoys as a legislator which he uses to get many those things done also which give him big financial gains. What he delivers in return is also known to the common man so the least said about it the better.
