There is a sudden change of ‘stances’ on the part of the leaders of both the grand old parties of the country which since decades have known no leaderships other than those of the Mian Family and the Zardari family. It can be termed as the country’s great misfortune that when the late Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto took office as Pakistan’s Prime Minister, she was already Mrs Zardari.
The sudden announcement of the arrest of Uzair Baloch whose confessions are unlikely not to rock this country’s ‘privatised’ democracy, seems to be having a huge cooling effect on the rising ‘temperatures’ in the camps of the PML (N) and the PPP. The lesser leaders of the PPP have been quick in responding to Zardari Sahib’s instructions that ceasefire with the PML (N) should promptly be enforced, and even ‘assaults’ on the ‘hated’ Chaudhry Nisar Ali too be stopped.
Maula Bux Chandio has gone as far as to declare that “Chaudhry Nisar is infact our Minister of Interior too”, and “we are on the same page” on all the matters related to the Karachi operation.
Syed Khurshid Shah too has acted briskly to bury the hatchet.
The underlying message from Mr Zardari to Mian Nawaz Sharif is: “It’s my turn now. After me will roll your head.”
The indications are that the message has been heard. Rana Sanaullah’s statement in this respect is quite ‘indicative’ “Uzair Baloch’s confessions are of zero value if not made sustainable in a proper court of law.”
Will the ‘Muk Muka’ formula work in the case of Uzair Baloch too as it has worked in the case of Ayan Ali and Dr. Aasim Hussain?
Mian Nawaz Sharif has all the words to throw up in the air to express his resolve to remain on the same page with General Raheel Sharif, but his body language leaves a lot to be desired.
