  • Naeemul Haq says the inquiry committee should also be given a right to question PM Nawaz Sharif
  • Dr. Tahir ul Qadri terms government’s decision as a joke with the national security

patflagISLAMABAD, November 6: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Sunday expressed reservations over the government’s decision to hold an inquiry into news leak of security meeting through a committee to be headed by a retired high court judge.
Talking to media, PTI Secretary Information Naeemul Haq said that the head of the committee should be a serving judge of the Supreme Court.
He said that the inquiry committee should also be given a right to question Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Meanwhile, PAT chief Dr. Tahir ul Qadri termed the government’s decision as a joke with the national security.
He claimed that the job is being given to a retired judge to give the government a clean chit.
Yesterday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had announced that a retired high court judge will head the committee meant to establish the identity of the person who provided information regarding a high-level meeting of top civilian and military officials, held last month, to a reporter.
Nisar told a group of reporters on Saturday that the names of proposed members of the inquiry committee had been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the committee would be formed early next week. The minister said that the committee would work in a free and transparent manner, adding that the probe would not target former information minister Pervaiz Rashid, but would seek to track down the person who leaked “false information about a sensitive issue”. The prime minister also wanted to establish the identity of that person, Chaudhry Nisar said.-NNI
