CLEVELAND (Ohio, USA), November 9: : After a historically bitter contest Donald Trump won the presidential election that had polarized the American nation, whose changing demographics could not shape the poll results. He will be the 45th President of United States of America.
The results started pouring in after 8 pm. Both the Republicans and Democrats were convinced that their candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump would win the presidential election. Both the presidential candidates were not liked by the people and exit poll results did not show who was the most popular among both.
Almost 45 million cast ballots in advance before Election Day. There were nearly 40 percent unaffiliated voters, who now it turns out helped the Republican Party win the elections.
In Florida Hispanic participation was up by more than 453,000 votes nearly doubling the 2012 level. Trump won the state of Florida. The Catholic church which was not openly supporting him could have been the factor as well as the Evangelical and Presbyterian voters prevailed.
The Election Party of Democrats turned into sad moments after 8:30 when Trump started taking lead on all fronts. Democrats, however, were hopeful and watched the results being announced MSNBC TV channel.
After 10:30 pall gloom spread over the place. Local people who had won the election especially State Senator Sandra William tried to calm down everyone and said they had done their best and their country Republicans were unable to win.
“This is our win and we should be happy with that. There is no need to worry. We will better organize the party next time,” Sandra said. She and some other senior democrats, however, left the scene early and were not available for comments.
African American and Democrats Yuonne Conwell and her husband Kevin Conwell (The former is County Council Member and latter is City Council Member) were in shock. “We still cannot believe that we have lost overall in the country. “It is frightening. Majority of my community needs social safety net. There are a lot of broken families. There are a lot of senior citizens who live in poverty,” Kevin said.
Yuonne said the African Americans are disillusioned. “I know many did not vote. We officials tried to convince them to vote but many of them seemed to have no interest in elections. Trump attitude is going to be problem. He wants to make America white again,” she lamented.
Democrat Meryl Johnson who got elected to the County Board of Education was disappointed with the results. “I feel ashamed that a person like Trump would represent us in the world. We had excellent ground game going. We went from house to house and touched almost every person. But still Trump won the state of Ohio. Perhaps you cannot make people exercise their most precious right to vote,” she said sadly. Meryl has taught in Cleveland schools for 40 years. “It is important as I believe in public education. I will make sure the education we give has quality that our children deserve,” Meryl said. Social worker David Grier was an unaffiliated voter. He voted for Republican Party.
