I think Mr Sartaj Aziz needs to cut hugely on his over-exaggerated smile, as well as his cerebral age, to emerge as a worthy counterfoil to India’s foreign minister Shrimati Sushma Swaraj.
Shrimati’s ‘charm offensive’ is understandable. She is here to reinforce the impression which India has been trying hard to create all over the world that it is not wanting in goodwill even for a country that is the breeding- field of terrorism in the region. Sartaj Aziz was supposed to conceal his teeth as far as possible to convey to Sushma that Pakistan is not terribly pleased with India’s recent as well as distant record in the area of civility and good-neighbourliness.
The image that Sartaj Aziz has projected through that ”desperate handclasp” with Sushma is that of a nation in desperate need of India’s benevolence.
One understands the mindset of our merchant prime minister who doesn’t want to lose much time in earning the reputation of Asia’s all-sacrificing peace-maker. But even an ordinary student of current history knows that strengthening Modi’s hands will have disastrous repercussions on India’s Muslims— particularly Kashmir’s freedom fighters.
India’s romance with obscenely blood-thirsty Hindutva mindset can be made short-lived only by Pakistan’s calculated toughness.
