All patriotic Pakistanis who love Turks and Turkey as a matter of faith will be praying hard that President Erdogan will not allow himself to be exploited by our Prime Minister for any political gains. It is unthinkable in this era that President Erdogan will be ignorant of the current political situation in our country, that he will not be aware of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif being in the centre-stage of a case of massive corruption on the one hand (which has made him a respondent in the Supreme Court of Pakistan) and of a disgusting scandal involving a dangerous Security Breach, and that he will not be in knowledge of the tensions prevailing in the Civil-Military relations in this country.
Consequently our hopes are justifiably high that in his speech he will not touch the sensitive subject of how his democratically elected popular government, with the support of the masses, thwarted the attempt of the Turkish military to overthrow him.
The conditions in Pakistan are diagonally opposite to those in Turkey.
If there were a referendum in Pakistan in which people were asked to choose between one Sharif and the other, the General will run away with an incredible victory. Our prime minister will need all the luck in the world to avoid the consequences of a Qatari prince’s letter that has been presented in the Supreme Court of Pakistan as a proof of the innocence of the ruling family. The letter itself is an indictment inviting quick verdict.
