Haji Adeel who joined the great majority in Peshawar the other day was a staunch member of the ANP.He was 72. His views and suggestions were listened to with respect by late Abdul Wali Khan and his son Asfandyar Wali Khan. His father late Hakim Jalil too was a dyed-in-the -wool Congressite and a confidante of Bacha Khan and he had rendered great services in the partition struggle and was gaoled by the Britishers so many times.
Haji Adeel served his party well and was the mainstay of the ANP in Peshawar .Asfandyar Wali was right in saying that he was sheet anchor and a think-tank of his party. The ANP Peshawar would certainly be poorer without him.
In Peshawar city and cantonment it is the Hakim Jalil’s as well as Bilore families who provide immense political strength to the ANP.HajiAdeel had joined active politics after the death of his father when he was quite young soon after completing his studies. He held important positions as speaker of KPK assembly as well as senator .One wonders whether any of his offspring would like to step in his shoes as a politician and exhibit the same qualties of head and heart which had endeared him to his constituents.
Haji Adeel was a soft-spoken person who was accessible to the common man .He would surely be missed by his constituents.
POSTSCRIPT: The Indian star batsman Virat Kohli has been, lately, putting up excellent performance with the bat and if he continues to bat with the same zeal and determination and application of mind the cricket lovers might soon forget the legendary Tendulkar and Gavaskar. His greatest asset like the famed Tendulkar is consistency in run scoring and providing a sheet anchor to the Indian batting line.Age is on his side.
