KARACHI, November 22: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman on Tuesday warned the people that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was dragging the country into a quagmire of debt.
“Within last three years, the PML-N government has burdened the nation with an additional Rs 8 trillion foreign and domestic debt, more than 1/3rd of total national debt of previous 66 years of independence,” he said.
This horrifying debt picture has been painted in a State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) document called
National Data Summary, which is an eye-opener for every segment of the country because our masses are being pushed under the mountain of debts.
“Nawaz Sharif is systematically strangulating our dreams for economic prosperity and evading democratic accountability of economic injustice to thwart our nation’s goals,” PPP Chairman said in a statement.
He said that addition of such an staggering and unprecedentedly huge sums of within a short period of three years by PML-N government has further given impetus to the yearning for Panamagate probe as the Prime Minister and his team was adamant to stop PPP’s Panama Bill passage from the Parliament.
It may be mentioned here that State Bank of Pakistan reported that the domestic debt and liabilities showed an increase of Rs5.26tr and external debt more than Rs2.5 trillion jumping to a total Rs22 trillion while the figure was at Rs14.32 trillion June 2013, the domestic debt and liabilities stood at Rs9.52 trillion and external debt and liabilities were recorded at Rs4.8 trillion.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari pledged that his Party won’t remain silent on such massive suicidal economic policies and asked all the political parties in the Parliament to raise their voice together with the PPP to save economic nose-dive being engineered by the PML-N government and inflicted upon the masses. -DNA
