Systems of government and constitutions are made by human beings who are fallible, bound to commit mistakes. One learns with experience. There is no harm if amendments in them are made commensurate with the demands of time.
What do the people expect from the government ? Maintenance of law and order ,safeguard of their honour and property ,exploitation -free society, rule of law, justice, equality ,free Medicare and education,a roof over their head and employment so on and so forth. Unfortunately , the successive governments in this country since its creation in 1947 have failed to deliver and teeming millions in the country don’t know where their next meal is going to come from, what to speak of a roof over their heads and their other basic needs.
The tragedy is that the so-called Parliamentarians care two hoots for the common man.Just look at the composition of parliament and you won’t take much time to know that it simply does not represent the working class of the people.Time has certainly come when the present parliamentary system is done away with and replaced by a system based on proportional representation so that all segments of society are duly represented in Parliament.Once persons belonging to the working class are elected in the legislature only then would the working class be able to get those enactments passed in Parliament which are aimed at the ameloriation of its lot.It is about time the civil society start putting up political pressure on the powers that be to get the constitution of 1973 amended where necessary in order to rid the country of the present system of government which is elite-friendly .
