Britain is probably the only country in the world that strictly believed in the freedom of expression and human rights till recently. It used to be a paradise for all those persons living round the world who were persecuted for their political and religious beliefs in their countries. They easily got political asylum in Britain once they landed at Heathrow. The US which claims itself to be the biggest champion of human rights cannot hold candle to Britain in this matter as there are some states in America in which the communists cannot operate. The US was forced to tighten up its homeland security after nine eleven and now green card isn’t given to every Tom,Dick and Harry.
Today even a country like Britain is forced to review its immigration law particularly the provision relating to the grant of political asylum to foreigners because many terrorists have been misusing it.
There is a need on the part of our government to tighten its control over the Durand Line as well on our border touching Afghanistan and Iran in Balochistan. A strict visa regimen needs to be enforced for visitors to this country whether they come from Afghanistan or any other country. Those residents of Afghanistan and those Pakistanis who have been instrumental in providing them with our CNICs and facilitated them in buying property in this country should not be spared. An example be made of them by awarding them strict stern jail terms.
POSTSCRIPT: The outgoing Army chief had set up many noble traditions during his stint in office. The man in the street expects that the incoming Army chief would follow them in letter and spirit.
