The MQM would never be the same again. It has met its just deserts——–thanks to fascist policies of its founder Altaf Hussain. It stands split into as many as four groups.Leaving aside MQM London, professing loyalty to its founder, three offshoots of this party operate in Karachi under the name of MQM Haqeeqi,MQM Pakistan and Pak Sarzameen Party. All of them claim to be the the true and genuine MQM.Though initially it came into existence for the protection of the interest of urdu speaking people of Sind, later on its leaders insisted their party is not linguistic and its doors are open for every Pakistani no matter which language he speaks and which area he belongs to.
Their true worth and intention would, however, be known only at the time when they go to the polls. The group whose candidate polls more votes than the candidates of the other group would naturally represent the majority view of the MQM though chances of their victory might be bleak in that case because the MQM votes would be divided if all of them fielded candidates for the election in which case candidate of parties other than the MQM would carry the day.
Come to think of it, the founder of the MQM has to blame none but himself for bringing his house down on his head.Things would not have come to such a pass had he not indulged in the political and financial shenanigans he is accused of.The MQM had started on a good note by accommodating politicians of middle and lower middle class by giving them party representation in Parliament. The middle class had heaved a sigh of relief that at long last a party representing the working class had arrived on the political scene of the country. That relief, however, turned out to be short lived.Power went into the head of its chief Altaf Hussain who started acting as a don of some underground mafia rather than head of a political party and those disobeying his orders were eliminated pronto as was done by German and Italian military dictators before the start of second world war.
