PESHAWAR, February 9: Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Chairman ruled out privatization of hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that his party-led government would only bring reforms for betterment of health sector in the province.
“We are not privatizing the hospitals, all we want is to bring the government hospitals at par with the private hospitals through reforms, Imran said while addressing a press conference in Peshawar. “A few doctors who are running their private hospitals are against reforms while 95 percent of the doctors are with us,” he added.
Reading out a court verdict, the PTI chairman said that the doctors could not stage protest demonstrations on the issue. “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government imposed Essential Services Act at government hospitals owing to the court order,” Imran clarified.
He said that the PTI had made promised with the masses that it would bring the government hospitals at par with the private hospitals after coming into power.
The PTI chairman accused PML-N leader Amir Maqam of provoking doctors against the provincial government while visiting a hospital. “Amir Maqam should be served a contempt of court notice,” he added. -DNA
