Greeks had all kinds of gods. As well as goddesses. There was Zeus. Then Apollo. Also Poseidon. And Ares. And Hermes. And Athena. And Venus. And hundreds of others, most of whom had no names. Among them should have beens gods of corruption too. It is not logical and realistic to assume that there had been no corruption in the ancient times. Somehow the great Greek writers like Homer, Aristophenes, Euripides, Sophocles and Aeschylus did not find it appropriate to mention the gods of Corruption in their works.
This subject has come to my mind on reading two major stories on the front page of Pakistan’s leading English daily-DAWN.
The headline of the main story says, ACTION AGAINST JuD CHIEF IN ‘NATIONAL INTEREST’ SAYS ARMY.
The second main story says: JUSTICE AZAMAT SAEED UNDERGOES SURGERY, PANAMAGATE PROCEEDINGS LIKELY TO BE POSTPONED.
In both these stories the fortunes of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif figure prominently. Regarding the house arrest of Hafiz Saeed, proclaimed by both India and America as a primary character behind terrorism, it can be safely assumed that our Army leadership has atlast decided to be on the same page with Mian Nawaz Sharif regarding the requisites of National Interest. This is a clear shift from the previous perceptions, and this shift has come in the wake of Trump’s threatening statements and policy announcements, and after our Army Chief Qamar Bajwa met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the sources of the PM House stated that, in the meeting above matters relating to ‘regional and national security’ were discussed. It goes without saying that the MNS concept of National Security has been a huge departure from the meanings that our Army leadership has always given to the phrase NATIONAL SECURITY. Indian Prime Minister Modi’s visit to MNS’s Raiwind Palace on December 25, 2015 constituted the essence of what “National Security” has meant to MNS.
The hue and cry the Army leadership had raised in October 2016 regarding what was termed as a ‘planted news’ in the daily Dawn to subvert Pakistan’s national security had accurately mirrored our Army’s comprehension of “National Interest”.
It will not be impertinent to mention here that “Hafiz Saeed” had indirectly been the subject of ‘the DAWN Leak”. Now with the detention of the JuD chief, Dawn feels vindicated as is evident from the jubilant manner it has interpreted the press conference of the new DG of ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor.
Have the gods of corruption been kind to our Prime Minister, and hastily come to his rescue?
The second story says so.
The Panamagate case has entered a ‘critical’ phase from the point of view of MNS camp, as the headline of the story says:
“WITHHOLDING EVIDENCE A BIG GAMBLE, SC TFLLS HUSSAIN (NAWAZ)’S LAWYER”.
This headline is based on Justice Saeed Khosa’s remarks on the behaviour of Salman Raja the advocate of Hussain Nawaz: “By taking the stance SORRY, I CANNOT TELL ANYTHING you are telling the court to do whatever it wants to do. An issue has been brought before us, but when we asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (through his counsel) he simply shrugged it off towards his children because he had nothing to do with it. When we ask his daughter Maryam, she shifts the burden to her brother. And when we ask Hussain, he says he has no information to offer.”
Quite clearly MNS is in hot waters as far as the SC proceedings are concerned.
But then this news about Justice Azmat Saeed without whom the bench is incomplete!
Are the gods of corruption in action?
But Muslims don’t believe in any gods except ONE AND THE ONLY ALLAH WHOSE WILL IS GOING TO PREVAIL ULTIMATELY.
