The attitude and the time-buying tactics adopted by the Federal Government regarding the extension of the Military Courts set up in 2014 for the speedy trial of terrorists, quite clearly give one and only one message. The politicians are afraid of any departure from a system that provides a ‘handsome’ opportunity to those on trial, to get away with even most heinous of crimes through the services of “efficient’ lawyers who happen to form a ‘nexus’ with the lower judiciary. It is so, quite clearly because our political system is manned by forces which in the dictionary of terrorism are defined as facilitators.
It is in the light of this truth that the nine-point package that Asif Ali Zardari has unfolded in his press conference regarding the extension and re-formation of the Military Courts.
When I think of Zardari Sahib and Mian Sahib, I can’t help thinking of the monumental wealth and assets they own abroad in the name of their families and front persons.
There is a recent report in the American media that no less than $ 10 billion are laundered away from Pakistan annually. This cannot happen without the unseen covert support of those in power.
Pakistan happens to be under foreign debt amounting to more than $ 72 billion. It can be realistically assumed that half of this money might have been laundered back into the pockets and accounts of those because of whose signatures, the future generations of this country will have to pay back in toil and blood.
Asif Ali Zardari wants Terrorism be defined clearly, and Terrorists identified specifically. Those whom he seeks to protect by standing in the way of speedy justice are terrorists. Those who facilitate terrorism of this kind through direct indirect, intentional or unintentional backing are no lesser terrorists. And there is no greater act of terrorism against this nation than plundering its wealth and siphoning it away into hidden properties and accounts abroad.
