One had seen the competent authority holding interviews of the candidates desirous of getting a post in a government department but one hadn’t heard or seen any head of a political party holding interviews for filing various cadre posts inside the party. This was something unheard of but this is exactly what has happened in PPP whose co-chairperson Bilawal has been interviewing party workers during the past couple of days for selecting persons to fill various cadres inside his party. The question is if politicians are not willing to set up Democratic traditions inside their parties why should we believe that they would practise democracy if they are voted into power?
Why is the PPP leadership scared of holding intra party elections? In point of fact, not only does the PPP but many other political parties also don’t believe in intra party polls and prefer making nominations from the top to various cadres within the party instead of asking the rank and file within the party to chose their leaders from bottom to to top through ballot box.Perhaps the JI is the only exception which has a well organised electoral system inside the party. The other parties had better emulate it.
The PPP’s chances of bouncing back in the national politics are remote unless it rids itself of the leaders who roamed in the corridors of power between 2008 and 2013 and who brought a bad name to it through their financial shenanigans.
