PESHAWAR, March 27: In the wake of Hussain Haqqani’s revelation that Pakistani visas were granted to US citizens without due process by the former government, Jamat-i-Islami (JI) Central Emir Sirajul Haq called on the federal government to form an inquiry commission to probe the matter.
Haq was speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony of the Madrassa Hadiqatul Ulumul Islamia at the party’s provincial headquarters on Monday.
The senator said that Haqqani had disclosed, in a recent article, that several visas were granted to US citizens and their spy agencies for the reason best known to the country’s leadership of the time.
He said a high-level commission should be formed to ensure that those responsible for the breach be held accountable.
“Foreign agents exist in the country to sabotage its stability and they should be unveiled,” he added.
Moreover, the senator said that some of the foreign ‘agents’ with the support of internal elements were trying to abolish blasphemy laws in the country.
“If anyone [government] tries to abolish clauses related to blasphemy
laws in the constitution, that would be the last nail in the coffin of that government as the elected representatives will be sent home by the people,” Haq warned. He added that the nation may be sinful but they would not allow anyone to commit blasphemy in the country.
He said that certain elements in the country’s leadership are committing ‘ideological terrorism’ and they should follow Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) example and table laws to ban interest on loans. “We will start a nationwide campaign against interest on loans in May to catalyse legislation to ban the system that is against the tenets of Islam,” Haq informed.-Agencies
