The muslim world is bitterly divided. There are over 50 countries. which claim themselves as Muslim but politically they stand apart. Meat of one is poison of another. The political and sectarian division among them is a big stumbling block in the way of their unity. The super powers,
particularly those countries which nurse a soft corner in their heart for the Jews, have been exploiting this rift in the Muslim world to their political advantage. There seems to be a dearth of leaders with vision and farsightedness in the Muslim world who could bring heads of all Muslim States on a single table. After the 1974 summit conference of the heads of muslim states in Lahore arranged by Z. A. Bhutto one cannot recall any such a moot held anywhere in the world. Had Bhutto and King Faisal been around for a couple of more years, follow up action on the decisions made in that conference would have resolved the mutually destructive internecine differences that exist among the Muslim countries.
In the light of these facts the federal minister Abdul Qadir Baloch had a point when he said the other day that General Rahel Shareef’s appointment as head of the united army of some Muslim countries engineered by the Saudis would not be welcomed by those countries who are at daggers drawn with Riyadh. If Iran is also made a part of this army no body would be able to raise eyes over his appointment.
