The military has finally put its foot down by stating that the decision of General ( r) Raheel Sharif heading the joint Islamic army has the approval of the State of Pakistan, and should be regarded as final.
The choice of the word ‘State’ in this respect in preference to the word ‘government’ is quite meaningful. The government of Mian Nawaz Sharif has tried to use this issue, on the one hand to give an impression that the Civil and Military are on one page on all matters including the notorious Dawn News-plant, and on the other hand has sponsored secretly a covert as well as overt campaign to vilify the army leadership. The overt campaign has been led by a channel and its key personnel that has links with both India and the PM House, and the covert campaign through the social media. We all know how expansive the social media cell is that the PML (N) has established under the ‘able’ leadership of the Prime Minister’s daughter who herself has prime ministerial ambitions.
By using the term ‘State’, Major General Asif Ghafoor the DG ISPR has rendered the “misleading” explanations of the part-time Defense Minister Khwaja Asif meaningless.
Quite lately Khwaja Sahib has been arranging interviews in which he can subtly tell the Nation that with the NOC granted by the Nawaz Government to General Raheel Sharif heading the Saudi-sponsored joint Islamic military force, the issue of Dawn News-plant stands buried .
The Military has firmly stated that General (r ) Raheel Sharif’s new assignment is a State decision. The State in this respect means the institution that has the responsibility to defend the country’s borders and ensure National Security.
It has been comprehensively clarified by the State representatives that the said Force led by General Raheel Sharif will in no way be used against Iran, and the Pakistani Unit will function strictly inside Saudi borders. Thus all efforts to give this issue sectarian colours are sinister. Has Pakistan ever objected to Iran forming a strong bond with India?
