It is not easy to get close to the king. Nor to the queen. Reasons are obvious. They live in tight security. And immaculate protocol. Thus access to the king of his cronies and henchmen isn’t very regular. Whenever such access occurs, the cronies go overboard to beat each other in the age-old art of sycophancy. These days most cronies rely on their TV appearances, hoping that His Majesty may well be watching. This should explain the ‘excellent’ performances of Danyal Aziz, Talal Chaudhry and Abid Sher Ali (etc). Maryam Aurangzeb in contrast is a ‘cool’ customer. She has one sustained look of ‘sarcasm’ on her face and a single pitch of voice. One gets a feeling that she is merely a dependable and sturdy hardware churning out a recording.
The case of the Crown Princess however is different. She is not handicapped by unnecessary security and protocol. For anyone who believes he or she can deliver, can carve his or her way into her inner circle which has expanded at incredible speed due to availability of substantial funds to be disbursed for the noble cause of spreading one and only one message. LONG LIVE THE KING. LONGER LIVE THE PRINCESS.
Quite understandably Maryam Nawaz Sharif has the largest kitchen cabinet in history. It is mostly manned by ‘seasoned’ journalists (on sale) new recruits with potential (Habib Akram etc) and those who have the ability to use the social media for spreading ‘truth’ of her royal highness’s making.
Twitter happens to be Madam Maryam’s favourite weapon of war. Though her chosen ENEMY NUMBER ONE is Imran Khan, she has started finding other targets too. Not directly though. Chaudhry Nisar hasn’t condemned the use of Twitter for no reason. He has dubbed it as a potential threat to Democracy.
Maryam’s latest target is the name PANAMA. She has denounced Panama Papers as trash that has nothing to do with corruption. In response one of the journalists behind the Panama Papers bombshell, Bastin Obermayer (a German) has forcefully corrected Maryam: “It is all about Corruption. And Corruption. And Corruption. And Corruption.”
Judges seem to agree. As this debate on Twitter was going on, the Supreme Court promptly formed a special three-member bench to enforce the judgment of the previous five-member larger bench.
Let the Judges decide your highness……
