The armed clash between the workers of PPP and Nawaz League in Kotli,Azad Kashmir, the other day after exchange of hot words betray the bitter fact that the political leaders haven’t devoted much attention to the training of their workers and have miserably failed to instil the element of tolerance into them. There is no denying the fact that the common man looks up to their leaders for guidance and blindly follows the standards of behaviour and attitude set up by them.Since leaders of most of our political parties themselves indulge in the use of vitriolic language against their political adversaries in their public statements how can one blame their party workers if they also follow suit?It goes without saying that a parliamentary democracy simply cannot function if its believers use four-letter words against one another. The Kotli’s incident would further divide the wedge between these two political parties despite the underhand understanding of Zardari and Nawaz Sharif that I will scratch your back and you scratch mine. Some of the leaders of both of these political parties are unwisely fanning the hatred created by this episode by indulging in broadside against each other instead of a conciliatory approach to douse the fire lit by it.
