Pakistan’ s over reliance on the US has not paid us any dividends. Washington has never helped us in our hour of crises. Its timely intervention in the 1970 Indo-Pak war when India in collusion with the then Soviet union was dismembering us could have averted the split of this country but it looked the other way. On the contrary it was Pakistan which performed the role of Washington’ front state in its cold war against Moscow. It was Pakistan which facilitated America’ s contact with China. What Pakistan did during the reign of Zia and Musharraf for furtherance of Washington ‘ cause in Afghanistan is known to everybody. It has, therefore, pained every Pakistani to see Trump cuddling up to India and openly declaring it as America’s best friend and completely ignoring Pakistan in the process and forgetting completely that no other country has sacrificed so much as Pakistan, in war on terror.
Time has certainly come when we cement our ties with Beijing by entering into a military pact with it in which it should be clearly mentioned that any attack on Pakistan would be construed as an attack on China and vice versa because China is the only country in the world which has always stood by us in our hour of crises and extended unconditional support to us. Granted that the strong American lobby that exists in the corridors of power in this country would go the whole hog to stymie any move aimed at the signing of a military pact between Pakistan and China but if we want to foil India’ s machination against us there is no other option but to enter into a military pact with China. Make no mistake about it.
