KARACHI, August 6: Internet services across the country have been restored, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) said on Sunday.
PTCL General Manager Imran Janjua told Geo News that internet services had begun to be restored countrywide today, after a major outage in the international submarine cable system IMV led to disruption in internet services over the weekend.
Internet subscribers reportedly faced difficulties after the 13,000km-long IMV cable, extending from India till France, was affected by a technical fault near Jeddah on Saturday.
Work is still under way to fix the CMV 4, Janjua said.
“The international consortium has identified the fault in IMEWE cable near Saudi Arabia and is currently working to resolve the issue,” PTCL tweeted earlier today.
“Outage in international submarine cable systems providing internet bandwidth to Pakistan, IMEWE. Customers will face slow internet browsing,” PTCL had tweeted on Saturday.
“International consortium working to resolve international submarine outage issue. Inconvenience to customers is regretted.”
“Another international cable system SEA-ME-WE 4 is already under repair by the international consortium.”
“We have successfully arranged for additional bandwidth through our international cable systems & partners. Things will start getting better,” the company posted on Twitter late Saturday.
TWA and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) are the only two companies with landing rights in Pakistan for internet and voice data traffic.-Agencies
