  • Shutdown observed in Pulwama on second day

SRINAGAR, February 16: In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Geelani, terming the killing of two innocent students by Indian forces’ personnel in Pulwama as the most painful and heart-breaking incident has said that the situation is becoming intolerable with each passing day.
Syed Ali Geelani in a statement issued from Srinagar said, “After every bloodshed, the authorities impose curfew and come up with thousands of heavily-armed undisciplined and inhuman forces on the roads to block the people’s protest. They act in Kashmir with such a blind and wild force that the human lives are like worms and insects for them.”
He said that discussions in newspapers and on social media regarding the freedom struggle of Kashmir was a healthy sign and it indicated that young generation Kashmiri was showing keen interest in their collective cause. “We consider this struggle as a religious obligation and the decisions are taken after thorough discussion and deliberations. However, whenever any solid and practicable alternative will come to fore from any quarter with regard to the course of action, we will welcome that,” he said.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Pulwama for the second consecutive day, Tuesday, against the killing of civilians including a female student by Indian troops in the district.
Indian Army and police had shot dead 23-year-old Shaista Hamid and 19-year old Danish Farooq during a peaceful protest against killing of a youth by Indian troops in Lelahaar area of the district on Sunday. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the road.-KMS
