Ever since our American ‘friends’ blew up the plane carrying General Zia ul Haque and the cream of our military leadership I have harboured ‘this’ strong view that the CIA and the ISI would remain outwardly allied and inwardly estranged. Getting rid of the PAK ARMY has not been immediate objective of the Pentagon, but the planners of the future goals of the US do not want the Pak Army to be a key factor in determining the new geo-political map. As long as the Pak Army has power, the goal of denuclearization of Pakistan will remain a distant dream.
When I read the famed book DECEPTION (based on declassified information) I had a clear comprehension of the short-term and long-term goals of Washington.
Having introduced the ‘Mujahidin’ narrative in the Afghan war of 1980s, Americans had unintentionally revived the fire of Jehad that had in the earlier centuries of Islam powered the expansion of Muslim conquests. When the end came for the Soviet drive to make Kabul Kremlin’s stronghold in the region, General Zia ul Hque became a dangerous ally in the US eyes— more so because of his push to make Pakistan a nuclear power.
Another thing that Zia had not done right in the U.S view was that he had replaced ‘clubs’ in the garrisons with ‘mosques’. Pakistan stood Islamised. It truly had an Islamic bomb. And an Islamic army.
Since then Americans have been in search of ‘persons’ and ‘ideas’ that can destabilize Pakistan. Musharraf was a handy General in the beginning. But his ‘secular’ face had not defaced his patriotism. Thus in the end Washington settled on Asif Ali Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif. Benazir Bhutto couldn’t be trusted. So she was removed from the scene. General Musharraf too was pushed out of power. Now Pakistan got dominated by characters like Haqqani and Sethi. Amazingly Nawaz’s former credentials as a possible Amir ul Momineen were replaced with an “ideologically” fired passion for liberalism and ‘openmindedness’.
It is high time that our Army Leadership should move to block the US advance through her two stooges— Zardari and Nawaz.
Pakistan can live without Democracy.
Pakistan cannot live without Pakistan.
One great positive development is that Pak Army and Pak Judiciary are on the same page now.
