Govt to constitute special commission to control NAB

ISLAMABAD, February 17: Amid tension between the watchdog and the PML-N government after PM warning to NAB, the government began considering a proposal for a high-level oversight commission and new law to tie the hands of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)
“To control NAB the government decided to constitute a commission and to introduce new rule which will monitor of NAB’s actions,” sources said.
The proposed commission would be led by retired judge of the apex court and comprised on retired army and civilian officers.
The government also decided to take political parties, especially PPP which also claimed to be victim of NAB, into confidence to introduce new tactic to control the Accountability Bureau.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a day earlier, had warned the watchdog not to harass “honest” officials.
According to sources, PM holds a key meeting with his close aides and legal advisors for counseling over issues regarding NAB.”
PM’s advisors and legal experts advised Nawaz Sharif to constitute a special commission to bound NAB.
While in the case of any complaint against the senior bureaucrats and members of parliament the department must keep the proposal in front of the special commission or NAB will has to inform the commission before taking actions against any senior officers and parliament member.
According to the sources the government decided to form special commission to limit NAB from doing its due roles.
In other hand new tasks were started to change the rules of NAB by the government and changes in the rules regarding NAB also come under the Law Review Committee headed by the Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
On this occasion proposals were presented to separate the investigation and prosecution and make a separate body which will decide to send the case to prosecution.-Agencies
