There is a need for a complete ban on issuing armed licenses for prohibited bore weapons if we are to control violence in the country. When we talk of prohibited bore weaponry we mean automatic rifles, pistols etc etc which are capable of killing scores of persons with a single burst of fire,.Such weaponry, as a matter of fact, should be in the hands of army,or para military force only rather than with private individuals who should rest content with non-prohibited weapons if they need them for their protection but armed licenses for them should also be issued after a thorough inquiry through police.
It is a pity that no government worth its salt in this country since 1970 has given enough attention to this vital issue concerncing law and order and no serious attempt was made to de-weaponise the society.Once or twice campaigns were started to de-weaponise the country but owing to political expediency it was not taken to its logical conclusion and stopped midway.
The country today is infested with heavy weaponry galore and no body in the corridors of power is least worried about it.On the contrary the powers that be are contemplating to legalise the possession of heavy prohibited bore weapons in private hands which only shows the contempt in which they hold the safety of the common man and their indifference to the law and order of the country.
