There is no denying the fact that we didn’t treat our East Pakistani brethren justly and let us admit that the feelings of deprivation among the Bengalis played a dominant part in their decision to part way from us. It is another matter that our arch rival India fully exploited the situation to its advantage.
Once bitten twice shy, we had better be on our guard against the recurrence of East-Pakistan like conditions again in any part of this country.
Neither Washington nor New Delhi can tolerate development of Gwadar into an international sea port as they realise in their heart of hearts that, if on the one hand, it is going to result in tremendous uplift of Pakistan’s economy, on the other, it would facilitate China to get an economic foothold in Africa and in the Middle East. Both these prospects are giving sleepless nights to the leaders of these two countries who have never been friends of either us or China.
We have to create stakes of the inhabitants of Gwadar in the developmental activity of the area and one way of doing so is to provide as many services as possible to the locals of the area. In the past our senseless rulers devoid of farsightedness used to supply Sui gas discovered in Balochistan to other parts of the country, whereas, they did not consider the people in whose area it was discovered worthy of its use with the result that a lot of resentment prevailed among the locals which was fully exploited by the enemies of this country who are always on the look out for an opportunity to fish in troubled waters.
