After a lot of dilly dallying the new Islamabad airport was finally commissioned a couple of days back. Let us hope the rumours that monetary corruption like kickbacks etc etc has also marred this project like many other mega projects of the country turn out to be incorrect. The concernced investigating agencies have already taken note of these rumours and they are looking into them to find out the truth.
The chaklala airport billed as Benazir International airport could not handle the grown and growing air traffic and the new airport which has started operating from the 3rd of the current month was the need of the hour.
Many new housing colonies, strangely enough, have sprung up around the new airport also which is just not on. Why the concernced authorities didn’t prevent these new constructions around the airport is not understandable. Either they were in league with the builders or there was a dereliction of duty on their part. That there should be no human habitation in and around an airport is a safety requirement . Whether or not the new international airport fulfils this requirement is open to question.
