There is a visible venom in the speeches of both Nawaz Sharif and his daughter whom he wants to see as the premier of this country one day. Both father and daughter have been putting their foot in their mouth by unnecessarily taking on both the Establishment and the judiciary in their public speeches. Shahbaz Sharif ,unlike his elder brother has been rather careful in the selection and use of words against the state institutions. Odds are that some sort of understanding might be reached between Zardari and Imran Khan during elections now not far away. Both are keeping their doors ajar at the moment. There is an outside chance of Nawaz League coming to power in the centre as a consequence of the forthcoming polls. It seems his party is fighting a losing battle.
The statement of the PM that there won’t be load shedding during the Sehri and Iftar in the coming Ramadhan belied the tall claim of his government that outages are now a thing of the past. The PM’ statement would be laughable if it not were so dangerous in its effect. It means that his cabinet minster, responsible for Water and Power, was telling lies to the nation a couple of months back when he said that his government has succeeded in seeing the back of power crises. Why on earth was the nation misled on the magnitude of electricity shortage in the country? The government would have to do a lot of explaining in the matter.
Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan didn’t see the culprits involved in the notorious case of formation of the IJI getting their just deserts. He had lodged a writ in the matter as back as 1996 in the Supreme Court. Political expediency got the better of justice and FairPlay for over 22 years but now it seems that at long last the Supreme Court has put its foot down and it wants the government to take the main culprits in this case take to task no matter who they are and how well placed they are. Let us hope this case won’t be allowed to drag on further.
